Springfield 600 point weekend
This last weekend was Springfield BMX Raceway's 600 point weekend. Friday was the single point local race, Saturday was the Gold Cup Qualifier, and Sunday was the Illinois State Qualifier. The volunteers had that track ready to go Friday night. Friday night race went pretty good having 14 motos. Then mother nature had different ideas! Saturday for the Gold Cup Qualifier, the rain started a hour before registration was supposed to start and did not stop until later on that night. So obviously they could not race the Gold Cup Qualifier on Saturday as that was postponed until Sunday. With all the volunteers from Springfield and every other Illinois track, they were able to turn that soupy mess into a remarkable BMX racing surface. So, on Sunday they ended up running the Gold Cup Qualifier which has 35 motos and the Illinois State Qualifier which had 45 motos. The new track rebuild offered some exciting side by side racing, passing, and many lead changing in multiple races. I can not wait to see the racing action on the new track during the rest of this season.
